HOW TO OVERCOME CHALLENGES – OLD WOMAN THUMB PRINT BANK TRANSACTION

I was on the queue of a bank in Kenya and I noticed at the counter, this old lady estimate age of about 85 years of age. A print-out was issued to her. She put her thumb print and the financial transaction was a done deal. I thought to myself – “wow that is a creative way of overcoming a problem!” Her “inability to read and write” (AKA illiteracy) did not mean that she could not conduct financial transactions. Many a skeptic would think that because the old woman was illiterate she may have needed help from someone else to conduct her financial transactions. But no, the thumbprint works just fine.

Many a time we look at what we do not have and say “if only we had this or that we could do this or that”. Disability (illiteracy) is not Inability (ability to conduct financial transactions).

As I stood in the bank queue another ‘cucu’ was ushered to the front to conduct a financial transaction. She was accompanied by her grandson but I think only to get her to the bank. She conducted the financial transaction without the grandson.

This therefore can serve as a lesson to all of us to look for innovative ways of going round our problems. Do not get stuck on the disability. There is always a way around it!
